Mr. Ort’s letter prescribes an impossible task for all Ontario educators be they in the public school system or the publically funded Catholic system.
Students, indeed all of us, do “deserve to be treated with respect and compassion” as well as “respect and fairness regardless of their sexual orientation”.
How does one do this on the one hand and then teach that homosexuality is both bad and wrong?
Teaching based on doctrine is not education but indoctrination. Perhaps Premier McGuinty’s hidden agenda that Mr. Ort fears is ridding publically funded schools of all stripes of that kind of “education.”
If so, more power to the government’s agenda.
