Council says one thing, does another

Re. Keep kids’ feet moving, not just their fingers, editorial, March 4

The City of Stratford has had a number of noteworthy accomplishments over the past few years and I always support giving credit where credit is due. However, I’m not in favour of giving credit where it is not due.

I refer to last week’s editorial regarding the local MovingON committee.  In it you state that “Stratford city council has already shown its commitment to the MovingON cause by signing the International Charter for Walking.”

In fact, city council has shown the exact opposite. While it was easy for council to state their commitment, they have demonstrated they have no commitment by once again choosing not to fund the walking/bicycle path on McCarthy Road.

Talk is cheap and actions speak louder than words.

Politicians are often accused of saying one thing and doing the opposite.  Surely it is the job of a newspaper to chastise politicians for this rather than congratulating them for it.
