Aboriginal culture and songs in the spotlight Saturday
Native Canadian Karen Gellman will share stories and songs from Aboriginal culture as part of Brampton's 2008 Festival of Learning.

The Brampton Library will host the performance at the Chinguacousy Branch, 150 Central Park Dr. at 2 p.m. this Saturday (Sept. 20).

Gellman is Metis of Cree decent and part of the Martin Clan. She has spent the majority of her life living in Ojibwa country. She is a drum carrier and has shared the gift for many years. She now works for the Region of Peel as an early childhood outreach worker for the aboriginal community and is an active member of the Peel Aboriginal Network.

The program is 30 to 45 minutes long and registration is not required. Children aged five and younger must be accompanied by an adult throughout.

The Festival of Learning is sponsored by the Brampton Literacy Committee and highlights the importance of literacy at home and in the community. The festival runs Sept. 18 to 28 and brochures outlining other scheduled events are available at all Brampton library locations.
