The Stratford Police Service was kept busy responding to a number of calls this weekend.

Police were called to the 200 block of Douglas Street Saturday after a resident reported a theft from an unlocked motor vehicle.

At this time, police are unsure what was stolen from the motor vehicle, but are reminding the public to lock their car doors even when parked at home.

Police also responded to a report of shoplifting at Zellers at 5 p.m. Saturday. A 20-year-old man allegedly left the store with merchandise and was followed by a witness.

A short time later, police located the suspect and arrested him for shoplifting. He was transported to the police station, where he was charged and later released. He will appear in court next month.

Police also issued several driving suspensions related to alcohol. In one of the cases, a 33-year-old Stratford man was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

He is due to appear in court later this month. Along with a driver’s licence suspension, his vehicle was seized.
