The Stratford City Football Club has announced the creation of a second team to the franchise, Stratford City United.
This newly-minted squad will act as a development and feeder team to the first team, which is now back in the KDSL Premier Division.
United will still play under the Stratford City FC banner, but will compete in a separate league, the SWRSL (South West Regional Soccer League). This particular league was specifically chosen for several reasons, most notably due to allowing time for the first team to plant their roots permanently in the Premier Division, as well as logistics and costs.
While the feeder team will be known as ‘Stratford City United,’ the first team will still be known as “Stratford City FC,” or just “City FC.” References to the club will be known as either “Stratford City Football Club,” “SCFC,” or the “Club.”
This exciting new development has been a long time coming for the club, says City’s Brad Wittig. The necessary addition will provide a valuable arena for proper development of players, specifically younger players, who aren’t physically or mentally ready for the faster and more challenging game at the KDSL level.
It will also allow for more players to play at a higher level than is currently available in our area. Soccer player registration has been on a steady rise with SYS and the club is ensuring they are ready for the expected increase in players looking to play higher levels of football.
Please be sure to come out and cheer for both teams this season. Schedules will be available in April, and play will begin in early May.
