Stratford FC had to a settle for a 2-2 tie against visiting Srbija in Kitchener and District Soccer League Premier Division action last Friday night at Packham.

FC battled back from a 2-0 first-half deficit on second-half goals by Rory Blackler and Mike Schuler. “Mike’s goal was a great goal; it was awesome,” Stratford midfielder Keith Donnelly said.

FC missed a great chance to win it when they failed to convert a penalty kick with about 10 minutes remaining.

FC called up three players (Mike Polanco, Ricky Polanco and Aap Inthasian) from their reserve squad, Stratford United, for the game.

“The team played really well,” Donnelly added. “It’s great to have those young guys; they are the future of the team.”

Stratford (4-8-2) currently sits in a tie for seventh place with Leoes, two points behind sixth-place Srbija (4-6-4).

Hrvat 1 - City FC 0
Stratford City FC travelled to Kitchener last Tuesday evening and came home on the wrong end of a 1-0 score in KDSL Premier Division action.

The passing game was dominated by Hrvat, who were in control for a good part of the game.

The home team caused City a few headaches around the net, but only one was able to get by Stratford keeper Dave Macdonald.

City had a few glorious chances of their own, but failed to put the proverbial “bulge in the old onion bag.” Mattias Wienecke started with the string of opportunities with a spectacular shot from about 25 yards out and connected with the post. Jade Maxwell and Ashley Adams had the same sort of success on their chances.

Richie Antolcic scored the game’s only goal for fourth-place Hrvat (5-4-4).

Upcoming: FC plays second-place Sonnys this Saturday, Aug. 14 at Kitchener Woodside at 7 p.m. Next home game isn’t until Friday, Aug. 27 at Packham when they host Aurora Lodge.
Oriental leads the 10-team Premier standings with a 9-2-3 record.
