Stratford Police are cracking down on truck drivers ignoring the bylaw requiring them to use a truck route around the city during Ontario Street construction.
In a press release last week, Insp. Sam Theocharis said the grace period, which allowed truck drivers to familiarize themselves with the construction and the bypass route, has ended.
The warm weather has brought a noticeable increase in traffic on Ontario Street and police have noticed an increase in truck traffic as well.
“Officers have now been instructed to enforce the bylaw and any breaches of the Highway Traffic Act that may occur in order to ensure that the flow of traffic on Ontario Street continues to move in an efficient manner,” states the press release.
Over the week few weeks, the city engineering department has increased the number of signs to alert and advise truck drivers entering the city of the construction and bypass route.
