Three Festival City Twirlers teams won gold medals at the Canadian National Baton Twirling Championships in Burlington on the weekend.
The local club's primary novice small and juvenile novice small dance twirl teams won the provincial championship titles in their respective divisions. The club's junior beginner trio also won gold, while the juvenile novice small dance twirl won silver.
The team achievements capped off a successful weekend which saw many local twirlers win individual titles.
Cassie Droog, 9, was named the Ontario novice solo champion for the 7-9 age category. She also placed fourth in the novice Miss Majorette of Ontario 7-9 event. Her sister Allison, 3, placed fourth in beginner basic strut 0-6.
Paige Zimmer, 9, won provincial titles in beginner x-strut 7-9 and novice 2-baton 7-9. She also placed first in open novice 2-baton and second in open beginner x-strut.
Hanna Fahraeus, 11, won the Ontario novice x-strut 10-12 title and won silver in Ontario novice 2-baton 10-12. She finished third in the beginner Miss Majorette of Ontario 10-12 pageant and fourth in provincial beginner solo. She placed first in open novice 2-baton.
Ashley Renecker, 15, won bronze in Ontario beginner solo 13-15 and finished fifth in the beginner Miss Majorette of Ontario 13-15 pageant. She finished fourth in Ontario beginner 2-baton 13-15, 10th in Ontario beginner x-strut 13-15 and placed first in open beginner 2-baton 13-15.
Kaitlyn Buxton, 11, placed seventh in the novice Miss Majorette of Ontario 10-12 pageant and eighth in Ontario novice solo 10-12.
The next competition for the club is June 7, when the Festival City Twirlers will host a contest at Stratford Central Secondary School.

Two local members of the Oshawa-based Camaros Baton Club had a successful weekend at the CNBTA provincial championships, winning several individual titles.
Samantha Metelski, 14, was named the Junior Miss Majorette of Ontario and won provincial titles in advanced 2-baton, advanced solo, advanced x-strut, all in the 13-15 age division. She finished second in Ontario advanced freestyle 13-15. Three teams Samantha twirls on in the advanced senior dance twirl, advanced junior dance twirl and advanced world twirl team categories also won gold.
Janine Metelski, 9, won the beginner Miss Majorette of Ontario 7-9 title and provincial gold in the beginner 2-baton, beginner solo and intermediate x-strut 7-9 divisions. She won bronze in the Ontario beginner freestyle 7-9 event. The sisters will be competing at upcoming contests in Oakville and Etobicoke.
