Stratford Kickmaster U12 Boys went 1-2 at the Aurora Can-Am Challenge on the weekend.
Stratford opened pool play friday with a 2-0 loss at the hands of the Oak Ridges Knights. Game two saw Stratford blank the Aurora Stingers 4-0. Brandon Van Vessem opened the scoring with a terrific header off a high cross from Blake Pickering. Kaejon Misuraca then scored back to back goals, the first off a Van Vessem set up, then another off a super pass from the boot of Curtis Hessey. The final marker was the result of some lovely 3-way passing by Cameron Henderson, Sam Hopkinson and Owen O’Leary, with the latter depositing the tally. Owen Smith, Andrew Bogdon and Keaton Foster all turned in solid performances for Kickmasters.
Saturday morning Stratford’s quarter-final pitted them against the Kleinburg Nobleton Lions.
Misuraca continued his hot streak around the cage as he controlled a loose ball off his chest and beat the keeper to open the scoring. Although Stratford controlled much of the play, they were somewhat unlucky to find the score knotted 1-1 at the half. They fell behind in the second due to a flat display, and despite a flurry in the last ten minutes could not recover.
In league play Tuesday, the U12 Boys rallied from two goals down to tie second-place Kitchener 3-3 at the Packham fields. Goals were scored by Pickering, Misuraca and Bogdon.
