Tennis Club hosts Super Set tourney

The Stratford Tennis Club held its annual Super Set Tournament on the weekend.

Saturday’s rain prevented the men’s singles events from being completed, but the club was able to crown the ladies’ champion – Krista Plociennik downed Marta Andrekovic 8-5 to take the 2008 Super Set title.

On Sunday, there was a full day of doubles play. The ladies A doubles final saw Andrekovic and Gail Shelton defeat Laura Hazen and Kourtney Gordon 8-4 to take the title. The ladies A consolation winners were Lise Couture and Marilyn Leasa, who defeated Katie Burton and Plociennik 8-4.

The ladies B doubles final saw the sister’s team of Monika and Sonja Andrekovic score an 8-2 victory over Danielle Chisholm and Connie Findleyson.
In the men’s A doubles, Max Besworth and Ryan Magagnin won their second straight Super Set title with an 8-2 win over Zdenko Andrekovic and John Noble. Larry Shurrie and Richard Bast won the men’s A consolation in a walkover when Shannon Dyke and Shawn Flanagan were unable to play.

Tom Warnock and Jack Watson dominated Nathan Duh and Greg Vivian in the men’s B final with a 8-0 victory. The men’s B consolation winners were Todd Chisholm and Bill Ramadani after an 8-4 win over Nathan Walsh and Jerry Ennett.

The rained-out men’s events were to be held this week.
