When registered massage therapist Nonie Ferguson decided to relocate from London to Stratford, everything about the move led her to believe it was meant to be.
Six years ago, when she went back to school for massage therapy, Ferguson – a fine artist with a background in theatre and film – knew she wanted to live in Stratford.
And earlier this month, her dreams finally came true when she began offering her services at Brunswick Massage Centre at 73 Brunswick St.
“It all went so smoothly and that’s when I knew that it was right,” said Ferguson, in an interview last week. “It’s probably the smoothest transition I’ve ever had. I feel like I’ve really landed.”
She was attracted to the city for several reasons, including the quality of life. Her sister, a former dancer, lives here with her family and she also knew a few people from working in the theatre.
“Having spent most of my life in urban centres, I truly appreciate that every time I got off the train it was a huge weight off my shoulders,” she said.
The RMT specializes in reiki and craniosacral therapy, which can help treat stress, neck and back pain and chronic pain conditions.
She enjoys being able to interact and exchange with people in a creative way and she strives to bring her sense of sensitivity and compassion to her work.
She views massage therapy as a symbiotic relationship, with more than just her patients reaping the benefits.
“It’s like going for a walk in the woods with someone,” she said. “It’s intimate work that I feel privileged to do because people have to trust you, they have to allow you to work with them. It’s an honour.”
So far, she said her friends and family have welcomed her to Stratford with open arms and she hopes she can become more involved in the community.
“I hope my realm of friends and clients will grow and I can embrace this town.”
