New look for River Garden Inn

It’s awfully hard to miss the the newest addition to the River Garden Inn.

A giant mural being painted on the west side of the hotel has been turning the heads of Delamere Street drivers for days.

Late last week, local artist Philip Yielding started work on the giant mural, a fall scene painted in the impressionist style.

“I started it four days ago and have a couple more to go,” said Yielding, while painting on Monday.

Before getting to work on the big wall, he first sat down and painted the image on a much smaller scale.

The artist has done plenty of other work around town, known especially for his signs which adorn the facades of businesses such as Fellini’s and Tango.

Yielding was commissioned to paint the piece by River Garden Inn owner Vic Hayter, who has undertaken a massive renovation of the property since he purchased the hotel in November 2006.

Having a mural painted on the wall was something that “sprung” into Hayter’s mind and he decided to pursue it.

“All we’re trying to do is keep it looking good and add a new twist to it to make it look exciting,” said Hayter.
