London woman killed in crash
A 72-year-old London woman died last Thursday in a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 23 south of Listowel.
Mary Ann Rogister died when her vehicle crashed after leaving the roadway. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
Rogister lost control of her vehicle at about 12:30 p.m., left the roadway and rolled into a field, Sebringville OPP report. The driver was the lone occupant of the car. She was transported to Listowel Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Highway 23 was closed for several hours while OPP technical collision investigators examined the scene.

Six hurt as van hits horse, buggy
Perth County OPP were called to a report of a collision on Aug. 31 at 5:40 p.m. on Road 121 near Line 72 in Mornington ward. A horse and buggy with six occupants was travelling on Road 121 when the buggy was struck from behind by a Chevrolet van travelling at about 30 km/h. As a result of the collision the occupants of the buggy were ejected and sent to hospital to be treated for minor injuries. The occupants, ranging in age from nine to 43 years old, are members of the same family. Police have laid a Careless Driving charge against the van’s driver, a 16-year-old from Listowel.

Police seize meth
Perth County OPP were on patrol on Perth Line 84 on Tuesday evening when an officer observed a woman riding a pocket bike without a helmet.
The officer stopped the woman and discovered she was under suspension from driving.
The 33-year-old from West Perth was arrested and a subsequent search discovered a small bag containing crystal methamphetamine and some syringes.
Police charged the woman with possession of a controlled substance.

Roadside memorial taken by thieves
Sometime between Aug. 22 and Aug. 24 unknown suspects stole a memorial on Highway 23 honouring the life of a young man who died in a snowmobile collision on Dec. 19.
The memorial, which included an angel wind chime and six solar lights, was set up at the side of the road near a tree to remember the young man. It was discovered missing by family members on the Sunday morning, just days before what would have been the teen’s 16th birthday.
In a press release, the OPP say they are baffled by the crime and the total lack of respect shown. Police hope the persons responsible will realize what they have done and return the items to their proper place.

Canine unit finds fleeing driver
Perth County OPP were on patrol on Highway 86 in outside of Listowel on Aug. 31 at 3:05 a.m. when the officer noted that the vehicle in front was having difficulty staying in the marked lane. The officer activated the emergency lights on the cruiser and the vehicle pulled over a short distance later at which time the male driver jumped out and ran into a field leaving his two friends sitting in the car. Police called for the K9 unit and after a brief search the man was located. A 30-year-old Huron County man was arrested and charged with Impaired Driving, Over .80 Mgs and Failing to Stop for Police.
