The Brantford Red Sox claimed the Intercounty Baseball League championships last Friday night, downing the London Majors 8-2 in the seventh and deciding game of the IBL’s final series.
Mike Meyers picked up the win on the mound and the Red Sox broke open the game with two runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, pounding out 11 hits en route to the win.
It was Brantford’s second IBL championship in three years as they lost the finals in seven games to the Toronto Maple Leafs last season.
London failed to capture its first IBL title since 1975 with the loss, the first time the home team had lost in the series.
Despite a valiant effort at the end of the season, the Stratford Nationals failed to make it to the playoffs.
