The Stratford Shakespeare Festival and the Teachers-Festival Liaison Council have introduced a new free program for local high school students called Shakespeare After School.
At each event, students from the Huron Perth Catholic and Avon Maitland District school boards will enjoy a free workshop, pizza, a show, and a post-show Q&A with actors.
Members of the club will receive notice – via Facebook – of each Shakespeare After School event date as it approaches, and spots in the events will be assigned on a first-come-first-served basis.
There are two events in the fall and two in the spring, plus a bonus fall trip to the Shaw Festival, where students will meet like-minded peers from that area (who are, in turn, invited to one of the fall dates in Stratford). Although the number of tickets for each event is limited, there is no limit to the number of students who can join the club.
Students from grades 9 to 12 can search “Shakespeare After School” in Facebook Groups and click Request to Join. Any students who are not on Facebook can contact the Festival’s education co-ordinator, Shira Ginsler at 519-271-0055 ext. 2319.
