WIARTON - Stratford Memorials Bantam boys went a perfect 5-0 to capture the Wiarton Red Devils softball tournament last weekend.
Memorials opened with a 12-1 win over the host Red Devils Friday night. After a day-long rain delay, Stratford faced league rival Mitchell Saturday night and cruised to a 10-0, three-inning mercy victory.
In Game 3 Sunday morning, Memorials defeated Durham 12-5.
In the semi-finals, Stratford scored a pair of runs early en route to a 4-1 win over Owen Sound. Michael Lagace-Roote tossed a one-hitter with 18 strikeouts.
In the final, Memorials scored five times in the fourth on their way to an 8-2 romp over Blyth. Lagace-Roote pitched his fourth win of the weekend, a two-hitter, while claiming 16 strikeout victims.

•The Boars Head Ladies improved their Southwest Region Soccer League Women’s Premier Division season record to a perfect 6-0 last Sunday at Packham Road with a 4-1 victory over the Waterloo Athletics.
Jen Knowlton, Rachel Sloane, league-leading scorer Tara Chadwick and Kahla Stern scored the Stratford goals. Teammates Carolyn Tuer and sweeper Jenna McLeod shared player-of-the-game honours.
The team has allowed just three goals against them to date.

•The St. Michael Warriors basketball camp, open to players ages 10-15, runs Aug. 10 to 14 from 9 a.m. to noon at the school.

The camp includes instruction from the St. Mikes coaching staff and guest appearances by Ontario university coaches.

•The Lung Association will host Glo Golf at the Stratford County Club on Friday, Aug. 14.
Participants will enjoy dinner, a golf appreciation pack, chances to win some great draw prizes and nine holes of glo golf. Flashlights, glo balls and all glo gear are included.
Registration for the best-ball format is $80    per person. It’s $70 for those 17 and under. Get your foursome together and register by Aug. 4 by calling 519-271-7500 or dropping by the Lung Association office at 342 Erie Street.

•Looking for something to do on Canada Day? Come to Drayton and help Mapleton Township celebrate its 10th anniversary.
There are a lot of activities planned -- something for everyone. One of the day’s highlights is an exhibition game between the three-time world men’s softball champs from New Zealand and the South Perth League all-stars at the Drayton ball diamond, starting at 7 p.m. Admission for the game is only $5, and people are asked to bring a lawn chair as bleacher seating is limited.
Another big event is professional arm wrestling, featuring several current and past champions. This will be a sanctioned event of the Ontario Arm Wrestling Association.

•The eight teams taking part in the 6th annual World Fastball Invitational in Monkton, July 2-5, include: Kitchener Rivershark Twins, Saskatoon Aspen Interiors, the Farm Tavern from Wisconsin, and the South Perth Men’s Fastball all-stars in Pool ‘A’; and the New Zealand Black Sox, Vancouver Grey Sox, Midwest Stampede from Iowa, and the Jarvis Gamblers in Pool ‘B’.
All the action starts Thursday, July 2 when Kitchener plays Saskatoon at 7:30 p.m., just after the opening ceremonies.

•A golf tournament to raise funds to purchase playground equipment for the Brodhagen Community Centre will be held at the Mitchell Golf and Country Club on Saturday, July 4.
The 18-hole tournament kicks off with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
