Following last Saturday’s GOJHL inter-locking game, Kurtis Bailey (Cullitons) and captain Anthony Soboczynski (Lincolns) were chosen the Dunny’s Source for Sports players-of-the-game for their respective teams. The two 20-year-old veterans received Source for Sports jackets.

The selections were made by members of the local newspaper media.

• Referee/linesman Kevin Brown dropped the ceremonial first puck prior to Saturday’s Cullitons-Lincs thriller. The 25-year-old Sebringville-area native was seriously injured during a Jr. C game between Woodstock and New Hamburg in late December.

Brown was attempting to break up a fight when one of the players cartwheeled, and his errant skate sliced open the official’s neck.

• Lincolns’ offence suffered a blow when leading scorer Seth Griffith injured his hip after being run into the Stratford net late in the first period. Griffith returned in the second period, but was only used a couple of times on powerplays the rest of the night.

Griffith leads St. Marys with 40 goals and 71 points. He has a GOJHL-leading 22 powerplay goals.

• There were no suspensions handed out resulting from a skirmish at the final buzzer. Six fighting majors were handed out. It’s too bad a good, entertaining, hard-fought game had to end on a bit of a sour note.

“I didn’t like the guys Stratford had on the ice at the end of the game,” said Lincolns assistant coach Tim Schultz, a former Cullitons captain. “We had our scorers out looking to score, and they had their dogs out looking to fight.

“It’s not the way to finish a game like this; it’s terrible. I just think it’s bad when you send guys out in situations.”

• The 50-50 draw winner took home over $2,500 Saturday night.

• In the Western Jr. C League game that followed Saturday’s Cullitons-Lincs’ tilt, Mitchell Hawks battled back from a 4-1 deficit to beat Kincardine Bulldogs 5-4 in overtime.

Kevin Baetz fired the winner, after Hawks had tied the game in the final minute of regulation time.

• Cullitons finished their nine-game January schedule with a 4-4-1 record. They went 3-1-1 in their final five games last month.

• Stratford, with just seven regular-season games remaining, has a busy week ahead. The Tribe played Tuesday in Kitchener, travels to Brantford Thursday at 7:30 p.m., hosts Elmira Friday at 7:30 p.m., and is the visitor Sunday in Waterloo at 1:30 p.m.

• Owen Sound Attack, in partnership with Hyde Construction Ltd. of Stratford, has announced the Hishon for Hodgkin’s promotion that will see Hyde Construction make a charitable donation to the Canadian Cancer Society in the name of Brittany Taylor for every goal and assist that Stratford native Joey Hishon scores on home ice for the remainder of the 2009-10 regular season.

Brittany Taylor, 15, is from Stratford and has just been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

She is the daughter of two-time Stanley Cup champion Tim Taylor and Jodilynn Taylor, who are close family friends of Peter Hyde and his family.

Hyde Construction Ltd. will donate $100 for every goal and $50 for every assist that Hishon, 18, scores on home ice for the remainder of the OHL regular schedule.
